Bethesda Scholarships
Selection Procedures
1. The Composition of the Scholarship Committee
The Scholarship Committee consists of department chairs and staff members. The Chair of Student Affairs is the Chairman who leads the committee.
2. Rules for Selecting Scholarship Recipients
a. The Scholarship Recipient must be a current full-time BU student and must have been a full-time student in the previous semester, except for new incoming students. Full-Time undergraduate level students must be enrolled in at least 12 units and full-time graduate-level students must be enrolled in at least 9 units to be eligible for a scholarship (units from ESL courses are excluded). However, if the selected recipient is a graduating student and does not require full-time units to graduate, then he or she does not have to follow the full-time requirement to be eligible.
b. MBA pre-requisite courses are not counted toward 9 units to be eligible for a Merit-Based scholarship.
c. Students in certificate programs are excluded from the scholarship recipients.
d. There is no scholarship available in both the summer and the winter sessions.
e. For the merit-based scholarship, in the case that several selected students have the same GPA, the scholarship will be based on the current semester’s GPA, the cumulative GPA in case of a tie in the current semester’s GPA, the total unit attempted in the case of a time in the total GPA.
f. Students must submit a scholarship application for each semester. None of scholarships will be renewed automatically for the following semester.
3. Scholarship Disbursement
All scholarships will be placed in the awarded student’s account to be used for tuition fees. Any student receiving financial aid (Cal Grant, Pell Grant, or student loans) and has an excess of tuition and registration fees will be allowed to use their scholarship for other needs such as housing, books, travel, food, or personal expenses. If there is any amount of credit remaining at the time of graduation, the student will be issued a check for the credit remaining in their account. The percentage discount scholarships such as Sibling/Family scholarship and Regent scholarship, will only pay for tuition, excluding any fees that occur each semester.
This scholarship is given to a graduate exemplary student with the best GPA
This scholarship is awarded to one student with the highest GPA who demonstrates exemplary academic performance.
The recipient is selected by the Scholarship Committee, and the award is granted only after full committee review and unanimous approval.
Renewable Status: Have to apply every semester; selection is not guaranteed to be considered for the award.
This scholarship is given to the top 10% of undergraduate students and graduate students from each major.
This scholarship is awarded to the top 10% of undergraduate and graduate students in each major.
A high GPA is required to be considered for this scholarship.
The Scholarship Committee will screen and reward the scholarships to candidates who are in the top 10% (30% for religious major) from each major with at least an undergraduate GPA of 3.6 or a graduate GPA of 3.7.
Renewable Status: Have to apply every semester; selection is not guaranteed to be considered for the award.
This scholarship is given to graduate Music majors who have demonstrated signs of leadership, have an exceptional school musical performance, and have an outstanding academic record.
This scholarship is awarded to graduate Music majors who have demonstrated leadership, exceptional musical performance, and an outstanding academic record. Recipients are expected to actively participate in campus chapel services and school events in collaboration with the Student Council.
Eligibility:
The Scholarship Committee will screen and award scholarships to candidates who are in the top 10% (30% for religious majors) from each major with at least an undergraduate GPA of 3.6 or a graduate GPA of 3.7.
The recipient will be selected after all the final grades are submitted.
Renewable Status: Have to apply every semester; selection is not guaranteed to be considered for the award.
This scholarship is given to athletes who have an outstanding performance record and a recommendation from each sports team coach.
This scholarship is given to athletes who have an outstanding performance record and a recommendation from each sports team coach. Award amount will be decided by the Scholarship Committee.
Eligibility:
Sports team coaches will recommend eligible athletes to the scholarship committee.
The recipient will be selected after all the final grades are submitted.
Renewable Status: Have to apply every semester, selection is not guaranteed to be considered for the award.
This scholarship is given to both undergraduate students and graduate students who demonstrates excellent academic performance and financial needs.
Only pertains to the FIRST Semester.
This scholarship is awarded to undergraduate and graduate students who demonstrate strong academic performance and financial need. For students who have graduated from Bethesda University and are enrolling in a graduate program, this scholarship is applicable to the first semester only.
This scholarship rewards students who are dedicated to continuing their studies at BU, rather than attending other university programs. The Scholarship Committee will screen and award candidates with at least a 3.3 GPA
Renewable Status: No
This scholarship is given to students involved in ministry.
A student who is an active pastor (or jeondosa), or the spouse or child of an active pastor at any church, will be eligible for a Religious Workers scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to students who are actively involved in ministry. Applicants must be serving in a church or church-affiliated organization as volunteers. Paid positions are not eligible for this scholarship.
The applicant must be able to submit a copy of the Pastor’s Ordination and submit a current Church Program or membership with the applicant’s name on it.
If the scholarship recipient’s GPA falls below 2.7 (B-), then one warning will be given to bring the cumulative GPA back up to 2.7 (B-) the following semester.
If the recipient does not bring the GPA back up, and for two consecutive semesters has a GPA that falls below 2.7, then the scholarship will be rescinded.

This scholarship is given to students whose family members also attend BU
This scholarship is awarded to students whose family member(s) are currently enrolled at Bethesda University at the same time.
Family members who have already graduated or are not currently attending Bethesda University do not qualify for this scholarship.
Renewable Status: Have to apply every semester; selection is not guaranteed to be considered for the award.
This scholarship is given to students who serve as student council members.
This scholarship is awarded to students who serve as official Student Council members.
Recipients are representative students who are actively involved in planning and supporting all school events,
engage in regular interaction with fellow students, and work closely with faculty and staff in service of the student body.
Renewable Status: Have to apply every semester, selection is not guaranteed to be considered for the award.
